Dar es Salaam, translated as ‘HOUSE OF PEACE’ is the capital city of Tanzania. With an estimated 5.5 million people of which 60% are below the age of 35 years. It is the third fastest growing city in Africa and this growth has brought with it many developmental challenges especially for the many young people who have migrated in search of a better life. Arts especially music has provided many of them with a way out of poverty and a voice to express their challenges. Bongo Flava, the fastest growing musical style in East Africa, adapted from hip hop and heavily influenced by the coastal Taarab music, rich in poetry and rhythm resulting to a moving and engaging experience.


Creative Theatre Productions is tapping into the diverse energy, creativity and talent from the city’s young people by bringing them together and providing a platform where they can realise their dreams. The group specialises in combining the many artistic forms into rich theatrical performances that address various topics, they tour schools and mainstream theatres entertaining and educating the populace. Their topics include HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Good Governance. Creative organises a monthly forum where young people come together to learn, share and exchange experiences with one another. It hopes to partner with the ministry of education in producing dramatic interpretation of school set texts and also hopes to open an art school as part of its income generating activity in the near future.

Entrepreneurship training and sensitising young people to setup income generating activities is a major focus of Creative.



To engage the arts in assisting young people to come together, share and exchange ideas and collectively address developmental challenges affecting them at the same time providing them with a voice to engage in governance issues at the local and national level.



An independent youth population with the capacity & skills to earn a descent livelihood & assist their communities realise solutions to developmental challenges.
